The expected result
At the end of this step, the Live screen shows OBS as set up and pointing at Corneta. That doesn't put any video on air yet: it only prepares the way for Corneta to tell OBS to stream when you hit GO LIVE.
Before you click
- open OBS Studio before Corneta;
- use OBS Studio 28 or newer, which already ships with the WebSocket;
- close any other app that might be changing your streaming settings;
- if the WebSocket asks for a password, have that password at hand.
Set it up in three steps
- In OBS, open Tools → WebSocket Server Settings.
- Check Enable WebSocket server and keep port
4455. Corneta's automatic integration uses that port on the same computer. If it's taken, resolve the conflict or use the manual setup below. - In Corneta, open Live → Hook up OBS and click Set it up for me.
If Enable Authentication is on in OBS, click Show Connect Info and paste the password Corneta asks for. This is the WebSocket password, not a platform's stream key.
When the status changes to Set up, Corneta has already switched the OBS service to Custom... and put the local server and key in the right fields.
If Corneta suggests adjusting the video
Starting with 0.9.0, the wizard shows OBS video right below Set up. It compares the resolution, the FPS and, in OBS's simple output mode, the bitrate with what the destinations receiving the copy accept without re-encoding.
- If OBS sends more than any of those destinations accepts, click Adjust OBS. Corneta only lowers values, keeps the screen's aspect ratio and saves the previous settings before changing anything.
- Undo puts OBS back the way it was before Corneta's first adjustment.
- In advanced output mode, Corneta can't reach the bitrate setting. The warning tells you the maximum so you can check it under Settings → Output in OBS.
- OBS only lets you change the video while streaming and recording are both stopped. Stop both in OBS and try again.
If it doesn't connect
| What showed up | Likely cause | How to confirm | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Couldn't find OBS to connect to | OBS closed, WebSocket off, a port other than 4455 or a firewall blocking it | Open the OBS window and go back to the Tools menu | Turn on the WebSocket server and try again |
| That WebSocket password didn't match | A password different from the one OBS shows, or Corneta has no password when OBS asks for one | Click Show Connect Info in OBS | Copy the current password and paste it into Corneta |
| Couldn't set OBS up on my own | The connection dropped midway or OBS refused the settings change | Look at the technical detail in the same window | Try again or use plan B below |
| Not pointing here yet in Hook up OBS | Control works, but the streaming service wasn't switched | Open Settings → Stream in OBS | Click Set it up for me again |
| The ingest server crashed | Another program is using the local port that receives the video from OBS | Close other streaming apps or RTMP servers and try again | Close that program or change the port under Settings → OBS → Advanced and click Set it up for me |
Plan B: set it up by hand
Open Hook up OBS, choose I'd rather set it up by hand and copy the Server and Stream key fields. In OBS, go to Settings → Stream, choose Service: Custom... and paste both.
Without the WebSocket, Corneta can't hit play in OBS on its own. After GO LIVE, click Start Streaming in OBS.
All set here? Continue with your first stream.
